About us

TEAM DYNAMICS

What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ for short)?

BJJ is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on ground fighting and control holds. Derived from Japanese Jiu-Jitsu, the martial art was designed to give smaller or weaker people the ability to defend themselves against larger or stronger opponents by utilizing leverage and weight distribution.

Here at Grappling Dynamics we focus exclusively on BJJ - both as a martial art and as a sport. Whether you want to practice BJJ for self-defense, competitive, fitness or social reasons, we welcome everyone and look forward to sharing the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with you.

We attach great importance to the high quality of the lessons and the creation of a pleasant training atmosphere.

We don't waste our time on "gym politics" or bloated egos - we focus on the team.

"Our team is a family and Jiu-Jitsu belongs to everyone!"

COACH: ANDREW

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt

Andrew is head coach at GRAPPLING-DYNAMIC. He can look back on more than 8 years of experience in teaching martial arts. He began BJJ training in 2009 and graduated to Black Belt in 2021.

Before moving to Germany, Andrew was an active competitor in the Western Australian BJJ scene, winning multiple medals in various BJJ and submission grappling competitions including gold at the state championships.

As a trainer, Andrew puts great emphasis on explaining the "why" and not just the "how". He is convinced that an open attitude to new techniques and a continuous learning process are important to get the best out of BJJ.

Outside of training, Andrew enjoys cooking, traveling and spending time with his family. For him there is nothing better in life than enjoying an ice cold beer on the beach!

COACH: KIM

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Blue Belt

Clemens has been doing martial arts for over 7 years, after boxing for several years, he found BJJ in 2019 and hasn't been able to get off the mat since.

In addition to training in Kaarst, he had the opportunity to train for several months in New York in one of the world's best gyms. Clemens is a technically very experienced fighter and attaches great importance to clean Jitsu.

Since he is also one of our most active competitors, he attaches great importance to teaching techniques that also work in a competitive situation.

UNITS

Einheiten

BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU

This course is suitable for all levels and focuses on traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with a BJJ suit (Gi).

BJJ training in the Gi allows you to slow down and control the pace of a match, as well as providing a variety of holds that can be used both offensively and defensively against your opponent.

no gi grappling

This course is aimed at all levels and is a style of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that is practiced without the traditional battle dress.

Removing the gi reduces control over the opponent. This results in a faster pace and tends to create more "scrambles" - a term used in BJJ when neither person holds a dominant position over the other, leading to a contest for dominant control.

bjj beginners

oPEN-mat

Training on the “Open Mat”  offers our team the opportunity to practice the techniques they have learned or to do sparring - known in BJJ as "Rolling".

"Rolling" is an important aspect of BJJ training. It allows the knowledge learned in class to be applied in a real scenario. There is also a direct correlation between BJJ skill advancement and time spent on the mat.

1:1 coaching

Everyone who practices BJJ is individual - be it physique, fighting style or the speed at which he/she is developing.

These coaching sessions with Coach Andrew (BJJ Black Belt) are designed to help each student develop their own “style/game” and work on the issues that are specifically critical to personal development.

This course is aimed at beginners and is practiced in a BJJ suit.

The aim of this course is to provide new students with an understanding of the different positions used in BJJ and basic self-defense skills.
